2017 celebrates the 6th year of Mad Hatter’s Wonderland Festival!
A charming country party in South West of France, this music festival is pleased to welcome some big live bands, local bands, great food, real ale and cider, and with any luck, some beautiful French sunshine!
The Wonderland Festival is a family-run music festival with a relaxed atmosphere. People of all ages come along to enjoy a weekend of music, food, fun and laughter. Set in the walled garden of a lovely traditional French house in the heart of the countryside, it creates a perfect setting for this event.

In response to guest feedback we have replaced the plastic green sunbeds with these smart, modern new loungers, which add a splash of colour to the poolside as well as being more comfortable to lie on. Perfect for catching those rays and zzzzzzz’s !
It’s lovely to see our guests enjoying their holidays at the gites. Some choose to spend their days by the pool, venturing no further than the local markets to pick up some delicious fresh fruits/vegetables/cheeses/fish/meats for dinner, whilst others travel slightly further afield – to the coast, or to one of the larger cities, shopping or sightseeing.
The summer of 2013 (although we’ve got a few weeks to go yet!) has been hot and sunny with the average temperatures in the high 20’s / low 30’s. This was dramatically punctuated on Friday 2nd August by a severe storm blowing through the region, flattening crops and uprooting trees. We saw the devastation for ourselves when we arrived the next day, with a large branch broken off our cherry tree and a couple of other smaller trees down in the garden.
But that event aside, the days have dawned bright and clear and typically guests start their days with coffee and croissants sitting under the cherry tree and end their days gazing up at the multitude of stars with a glass of wine.
By the end of September we will have welcomed over 100 people into the gites and overwhelmingly the feedback that we receive is
“we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and the gite was fantastic with everything we could want and more!”
which is the best news ever as that’s all we ever hoped to achieve when we started letting out the gites three years ago. So ‘thank you’ to our lovely guests and we hope to see you all again soon.
If you are lucky enough to be in the area on Friday 9th or Saturday 10th August – this is an event not to be missed!
The beautiful village of Verteuil will be holding its annual flower show in the grounds of the chateau on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May. There are over 90 exhibitors and food available.
Our two favourite restaurants, Café Porteblue and The Dixieland Café will also be open serving food – but book early as it will be busy!
Paintwork in gites has been refreshed; chipped crockery replaced; cooking utensils replenished; windows washed; floors swept; beds made; bicycles serviced; pool commissioned and heating turned on; lawns mown; hedges clipped; pool loungers put out; shutters open…. phew! But we are ready for our first guests of what looks to be a busy summer!
Welcome to our local postlady and her family who are gathering at Arbre de Cerise for the long Pentacost weekend.
